HIGHLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND DAY SCHOOL
Highland Presbyterian Church and Day School Natural Playground
Highland Presbyterian Church and Day School had the perfect environment for installation of a natural playground. The school wanted their students to engage in natural play using materials found in woods and creeks that would enhance their development of STEM learning skills. The shady playground was the vision of the school and church staff and implemented by local landscape architect, Kristin Booker.
Natural play elements were incorporated into the construction, consisting of historic mix concrete, weathered stone play stream, seating areas, pipe crawl along with drainage improvements and rustic fencing.
Although small in size, the park has made a tremendous impact with the students, allowing them to interacting with natural elements daily.
Construction consisted of hollow tree logs, a clatter bridge, treehouse, and water stream. Stone boulders and stepping stones make paths to places only limited by the child’s imagination.
